New cool and fun THREADS app

I have to say, it’s been kinda fun.

THREADS, the new *conversation* app from Meta that blew into our social world on July 5th, has been fun to explore.

Now, I’m someone who admittedly ISN’T on the cusp of all that is new and techy. The fact that I got onto it on the first day is a mixture of miracle, fluke and a dash of FOMO (fear of missing out). Seemed like all the cool kids were there so why not jump in, right?!

It felt like summertime at the playground with all your friends and, of course, the cool kids.

Many of us small business owners did the “ok, not what do I do here?” post, some reshared their content from Instagram and others went with humour. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard on a social platform, well, ever.

But it was fun to just *be* on there, not stressing about a curated look, or whether this was the perfect time to post. You could just be yourself, no polished image required. It was just SOCIAL (weird, I know).

So, where do we go from here?

At the best of times, most of us small business owners don’t have much of a cohesive social media strategy so adding yet another platform like THREADS is really testing our capacity. We often post what we can, when we can, often on the fly.

It begs more questions than answers…

Is THREADS going to be *just social* or will it morph into Instagram perfection?

What, if anything, is it going to do for our businesses?

Do I need to invest the time, energy, mental bandwidth into it?

And, just for another perspective, is THREADS even going to stick around??

I read this insightful article by Mark Schaefer that raised the question of how it’ll survive when it’s current claim to fame is that it’s like Twitter (with less features). Mark also made an interesting point of THREADS being just a place for the Twitter haters. That’s not really enough to make a platform successful in the long run.

As the days, weeks and months wear on, we’ll see THREADS evolve into whatever it’s meant to be.

Until then, I’m just going to have fun, laugh, and be social on it.

P.S. Have you tried out THREADS yet? I’d love to hear your take on it.

P.P.S. Want to learn more about THREADS? Here’s a really good article from Alex Quin
