future of small business

The future of small business…

There was a day last December that just sucked. I was feeling weighed from all these negative things piled on me. Never-ending product shortages, shipping delays, vendor price increases, holiday season stress and a bunch of other stuff had really worn me down on that particular day.

In addition to that, everyday there seemed to be another news article about Amazon ‘s world domination. Or, another record profit quarter for Walmart. Or, another long established business closing it’s doors forever. Ugh.

With the Amazons and Walmarts of the world already controlling the marketplace, and independent businesses closing their doors, what is the future of small business? How is small business in *insert your town/city here* going to survive, never mind thrive??

Later that evening, I did a quick Instagram scroll and came across a new post. Her name is Lily, a 9 years old entrepreneur. Yes, 9 YEARS OLD! To pay for her skating and gymnastics, she started a wax melts and candle small business at home. She’s spunky, articulate and a real go-getter. She’s homeschooled after being bullied at school. Read her full story HERE.

I’m absolutely in awe of her. To be so young and eager to go out into the world is truly incredible. To be so focused on goals and aspirations is amazing. Reading through her posts just made me love her even more! She shares herself honestly, showing us the good stuff and the not so good.

future of small business

After 28 years of entrepreneurship, maybe I just needed some inspiration. A good reminder that we all start our small business life full of excitement and big dreams. Maybe those of us that have been around for a while need that youthful exuberance to bring us back to our origins.

And to see that the next generation of small business owners have the skills and energy to create something wonderful and truly thrive.

Thank you, Lily.

To all of you reading this, please do me a favour and show Lily some Instagram love HERE! She’s the future of small business.
