You’re a fabulous baker, soap creator or candle maker!
Everyone (ok your family and friends!) loves your stuff and are encouraging you to go out in the world and sell your wares!
Now you’re thinking, maybe you should start your own home based business, right?
But where do you start?
Well luckily we have some small business tips for you!
Creator of yummy things and small business owner, Izabela De Paz (aka The Cake Mama) is here to share her 5 small business tips!
And Izabela knows a thing or two about small business! Her business was created out of a passion for baking and wanting to share it with others. What started out as a favour to a friend for her wedding has turned into a successful enterprise built around delicious cakes, decorated cookies and creative hands on workshops. Creating a home based business also allowed her the flexibility she needed for her young family.
Looking back, Izabela has learned many small business tips along the way, many of which through trial and error. As with many entrepreneurs, she’s more than willing to share her knowledge and experiences with others.
I am a firm believer that if you put your mind to something and work hard, you will see the fruits of that labor. I love to learn new techniques to keep myself on trend and I love being inspired by bakers all over the world
The Cake Mama’s 5 Small Business Tips-
1. Branding and aesthetic!
This is something a lot of small businesses overlook or simply don’t think about. Make sure your logo and business name convey the style of work you do. Have all your marketing materials reflect that as well. It’s important that your audience be able to identify your brand with ease.
2. Get social!
The easiest (and free!) way to get your business name out there is to create a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter account. Amazing photos are a must! You should only post good quality photos in bright natural lighting that showcase what you offer. (This ties in to tip #1, where your branding and aesthetic are consistent)
3. Be a vendor at a local market!
Whether you are a home-based or online based small business, consider having a booth/table at a local market. This will help you connect with existing customers and allow you to expand your clientele. Customers love connecting with shop owners and this is a great and fun way to do it!
4. Know your worth!
Take the time to evaluate the products and/or services you offer. Make sure you are compensating yourself appropriately! Too often, Makers are overworked and underpaid. It’s important to make sure you continue to love what you do and make money doing it!
5. Always evolve!
The best way to stay passionate about your business is to constantly try new things. Learning new styles and techniques or staying on top of trends ensures that you have something for everyone!
There are MANY things to consider when deciding to start your own enterprise. These 5 small business tips from The Cake Mama are a great place to begin!
